“Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.”

Aloha

Hawaii
So, three (or four) times is the charm. We’ve had months of planning a getaway to Hawaii cancelled because of Covid restrictions. As soon as Maui opened up Nov 1 we arrived, a Covid test later). The timing was wonderful, I believe ours was the first resort to open, we were right on the beach and not a lot of people. We got to see our wonderful Hawaiian chef and it really felt like a vacation; swimming, water sliding, reading, walking . . . ah. Then just when we left our chef emailed us, restrictions hit with even masks on the beach!

Mentoring
Applications are coming in for my writing program that begins January!

Zoom

We all zoomed out yet? I don’t know, it has its benefits, no pants (not a Jeffrey Toobin thing), no fighting traffic to and from a meeting. I’m honored and proud to be a mentor for SBIFF’s 10-10-10- Screenwriting and Filmmaking Competition. I’m mentoring two director students, one from Cate and the other from UCSB. I’m excited to see what they will shoot and how they will bring the theme of “Isolation” to the screen. The other mentors are part of an impressive group of professional screenwriters, producers, directors. Let’s hope the students will get their projects seen on the big screen in the Spring.

My first film “Behind the Burly Q” is now streaming on BroadwayHD – which means those in the UK (and beyond?) can now watch a little “naughty history.”

A-Ten-Hut

Sargent is standing to attention. Oh this dancing boy has a will to live. Thank goodness. He was hurt during the bird’s annual vet visit. Two surgeries later, he still has to be isolated from his flock (he hates it and is staring to kick against the barrier). He can walk (finally) and is less wobbly, but he can’t quite keep up with the flock. Flamingos generally with one partner. Sargent’s gal is Rosetta. When he’s with the flock you can see her trying to approach. Its been trying and stressful and hopefully Sargent will continue to gather strength.
Gobble Gobble

Despite 2020 there is much to be grateful for and though we had a smaller Thanksgiving in an abundance of caution. But as we aren’t “chopped liver” we still had a beautiful table set, we all dressed, said our list of gratitude and ate a whole bunch of pie! The following night is our traditional (and usually larger) Italian night. To say we might want to up the exercise regime is putting it lightly. Hope you all had a safe and sane holiday.
Burlesque and Pinup Emojis

Next month I have another book club zoom, this one for “Feuding Fan Dancers.” Super excited for it. If your BOOK CLUB would like me to visit via Skype, I’m available. It’s been fun coming into your homes, sending specialty FAN cocktail recipes before for you all to try, email me at staar@staarlet.com if you want me to join in. A questionnaire is on the website to download for your Book Club

And what I’m reading or recently read
for complete list, I have everything on Good Reads
as I can’t remember them all!
See ya between the pages next month around the Christmas tree and wreaths for us . . .
