Mentoring Matters

Mentôr, was the name of the advisor of young Telemachus in Homer’s Odyssey. Mentoring nurtures the professional development and personal growth of another, advising them on their own creative journey to take bold actions.

VISION

We believe the world is made up of stories, and storytelling can change everything. This is why we have chosen to mentor storytellers. Mentoring empowers the mentee in many ways: it boosts confidence, develops communication skills, motivates success, and offers ideas for turning weaknesses into strengths. Mentoring has the capability to grow new perspectives in both parties. It is giving back and paying forward.

WHAT MENTORING IS

A professional relationship that drives personal growth, builds skills, knowledge, and understanding. It involves advising someone in your chosen profession, be it songwriter, poet, filmmaker, etc. A mentor maintains confidentiality, trust, and respect while giving advice to further the mentee’s storytelling skills.

WHAT MENTORING IS NOT:

It is not a promise of a job, nor exchange of money, nor introduction to others

HOW TO MENTOR:

It can be done via zoom, phone calls, and in person meetings. Both mentor and mentee should set the parameters of the relationship; how long and how often they check in. They must align their values and goals, such as finishing a story or writing a poem.

WHO THIS IS FOR:

Anyone who tells a story through their work; painter, baker, screenwriter, dancer, choreographer, rapper, podcaster, DJ, painter, novelist, poet, editor, cinematographer… the list is long. If you believe in the power of storytelling like we do, won’t you please join the pledge.
