“Avere la botte piena e la moglie ubriaca.” -
Supposed Italian proverb that roughly translates into
To have the wine cask full and the wife drunk,
which again roughly translates into
“have your cake and eat it too.”
Amore

I have never been so glad to see a piece of luggage. This little leopard was left behind in America while we all made it to Italy (story in itself). It is my carryon with cord to computer, all my charging, listening devices, day timer, calendar, etc. So, she is here now and I am back at my computer and will whip out a short newsletter.

Pasta

Two years, vaccinations, numerous covid tests, new passports that had to be rushed and WE ARE HERE!!!! I’m so happy. We’ve had our villa for 17 years and even without us not much has changed except for a lot of expired spices and quinoa and weird shit in our pantry. We have a teenager sheep and adults, a gaggle of geese, my beloved rooster, chickens, and the insects and a few mice (outside, I pray!!!) I run screaming from. Town is so quiet, but mutual love fest at the bar seeing everyone. It is so good to be back, and I am savoring every minute and every calorie going down the pie hole!

Siena mid-day
Siena was without tourists. I am sure we will never see it that way again. Sadly, whole side streets with shops selling touristy things are gone. Close up and for sale or rent. A lot of restaurants are still not serving lunch. So, on one hand its lovely to enjoy this special city without selfie sticks and tour guides, but sad for the economySiena was without tourists. Strawberry Moon (3am)

Some extraordinary pictures of the full Strawberry Moon as it rose over the vineyard, then at 3 in the morning bathed my bed with a square of bright light through the open windows (screened, do you think I’m crazy?) and then a staggering pink sky at 5 this morning. So worth, not sleeping to see it.

The before times; Early June we graduated one kid. Went to a wedding in Kentucky loaded with flying giant cicadas. Oh My!

Yes, Coco came. Italy is so very dog friendly. And everyone at the bar knows her from my Instagram.

Okay just a little over the Strawberry Moon to receive a call from Steve Martin who wanted to let me know how much he loved, loved “Bound by Flesh” and he was even going to be watching it again. I mean, come on!!! It is streaming on Amazon and wherever.

Burlesque and Pinup Emojis
                                                                                          Must Read
Been reading a literal suitcase full of books. So many I recommended in my column in the Montecito Journal. Top picks, "Swan Dive: The Making of a Rouge Ballerina", and you don't have to be a dancer or a dance mom to enjoy this first Asia American solo dancer from ABT. You'll be inspired and outraged.  Also you must get this when it comes out, "Where the Truth Lies" by Anne Bailey, OMG. Riveting from page one. Heartbreaking in that unbearable, page-turning way as we race along to the surprising conclusion. The prose is gorgeous, it is mystery, thriller, and thought provoking.
Great Read
