“It’s practical to hope, because the hope is for us to survive as a human species. That’s very realistic.”
– Studs Terkel
“Packing” for Chicago

I just love hiking
Going stir crazy we decided to get our bottoms to Sedona, Arizona. I’ve been before. Felt safe. Most people masked. We ate outside. Weather was hot but it’s so beautiful there if you haven’t experienced it, it’s so worth it. Those red rocks! Had some delicious dinners, relaxed and back home.
WWicked Little Jail

Jerome, Arizona purported to be the “wickedest town in the west.” So, of course we had to check it out. It’s a funky little town. Once a huge copper mine, started by Huguette Clark’s father, at one time the richest man in the world! Huguette was the reclusive heiress with many mansions scattered around America. She has a beauty in Santa Barbara that she hadn’t visited for like 30 years. Where there is copper there is working girls. The last original bordello fell down, but they are reassembling it. Fun little adventure, half an hour from Sedona. Glad we went.
Back to School
The little people are back zooming. Though ironically our one child who is homeschooling is actually physically back in school. Go figure. And that’s all I’m gonna say about schooling.
Boss Bitch! Or acting like it

I was cast in a movie, “Cash Collectors” and worked a couple days in Hollywood. So weird to be on a set with masks (well, MOST of us had masks). I kept my distance more than anyone else, set away, wiped my area, kept my mask on. Its really uncomfortable to be around those that don’t follow any protocol. But happy, really happy to work a tough, long scene. The movie stars Michael Madsen and I got to do a scene with my bud Blake Boyd.
Tra La La La
So Staar is coming back! For one night at the Granada Theatre in SB with the SB Symphony which is kinda a big deal for me. Yes, I’m excited and terrified. Singing every day in my car, strengthening my voice. Its great to be given an opportunity when I feel I’ve grown so much since I last did my one woman show. My original amazing awesome piano man, Eliott Douglass has been working on the arrangement with me. Here is a link to the mockumentary of Staar.

Next month I’ll give you an update of how the show went!

Michigan Avenue
I’ve never been nervous to go to Chicago. We had a little something unexpected come up and I had to zip there. Kept thinking, Will there be riots? What will it be like? Well, the weather was glorious. They have a few major streets blocked off (like we do in Santa Barbara) for street dining. One block even had a huge TV set up so dinners (and I suspect bar drinkers) could watch the Bears game. There are lots of police out, security guards (with vests) in stores. Sadly, there are a LOT of boarded up stores, some still open, but . . . much damage was done by looters. Sad to see the big Barnes & Noble that I’d always treat the kids to books every visit was gone. Anyhow, got what I needed to do done, some writing, seeing marvelous friends I haven’t seen in over a year. And took a ton of pictures to post on IG. You are following be there aren’t you?

Stories Matter

Some more amazing storytellers with their writing tips on my IG and YouTube. From singer, songwriter Tiziano Ferro to Pam Jenoff and Sue Monk Kidd. I’m thrilled to have them and have so many more coming. An update regarding my program Stories Matter will be to ya next month.

Stagecoach Mary

Come across this fascinating woman and had to share. You can read about her in my blog on Medium, but she was so bad ass. First African American and only second woman to have a mail route back in the late 1800s in. She was a former enslaved woman she ended up in Montana, was the only African American for miles and miles. Her life was something.

Burlesque and Pinup Emojis

If your BOOK CLUB would like me to visit via Skype, I’m available. It’s been fun coming into your homes, sending specialty FAN cocktail recipes before for you all to try. email me at staar@staarlet.com if you want me to join in. A questionnaire is on the website to download for your Book Club.

I Never Knew
So many good ones. I’ve really been in the mood for thrillers, death, murder and the like. I recommend The Lions of Fifth Avenue (though not a murder story). Mexican Gothic, a mysterious ghost story. The Night Before, The Exiles, both authors on my IG and YouTube. And then of course there is the little self help book for wives . .
I’m also listening to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which I think is better as an audio book than reading it. Alan Cummings narrates.
And what I’m reading or recently read
for complete list, I have everything on Good Reads
as I can’t remember them all!
See ya between the pages next month . . . boo. Can it get any scarier?
